Create a flowable EPUB
Prepare your manuscript, check its structure and create a clean, flowable EPUB 3 file in your browser.
What type of file is your book in now?
Choose the original manuscript format. We will show you how to prepare it before you begin.
Prepare a reliable EPUB source
The converter needs the exported HTML plus any CSS and image folders—not the original INDD file.
Show InDesign preparation instructions
- Apply consistent paragraph styles to the title, author, chapter numbers, chapter titles and body paragraphs.
- In InDesign, choose File > Export and select HTML as the format.
- Export the complete document in the correct reading order and include the book's images.
- In the HTML export options, include style definitions and preserve local overrides.
- Place the HTML and every generated CSS, image or web-resources folder together, then ZIP them as one package.
The converter needs an HTML or ZIP export—not the DOCX or DOC file itself.
Show Word preparation instructions
- Use Word's built-in Heading 1 style for each chapter title. Use consistent styles for the book title, author and body text.
- Remove manual tabs, repeated blank paragraphs, headers, footers and print-only page numbers where practical.
- Save a copy in HTML or Web Page format. Use the filtered option if your version of Word offers it.
- Keep the HTML file and the matching resource folder that Word creates in the same location.
- ZIP the HTML and resource folder together, then upload that ZIP below.
Your file is close to ready. A quick structure check will produce a much better table of contents.
Show HTML and ZIP checklist
- Use H1 or H2 headings for chapter titles, or keep the recommended InDesign style names in the exported HTML.
- Check that the reading order matches the book and that the HTML contains the full manuscript.
- If the HTML links to CSS or images, put the HTML and all linked folders into one ZIP before uploading.
PDF stores a fixed page layout, so extracting it can lose headings, paragraph order and scene breaks. Use the original Word or InDesign file whenever possible.
Show the safest PDF preparation route
- First look for the original Word or InDesign manuscript and follow that preparation guide instead.
- If the PDF is the only source, convert it to an editable Word document using a trusted PDF tool.
- Proof the converted document carefully and apply Heading 1 to every chapter title before saving it as HTML.
- Keep any generated image or resource folder with the HTML and ZIP the complete package for upload.
Upload your prepared HTML or ZIP
Only HTML, HTM and ZIP files enter the converter. Your original manuscript remains unchanged.
