Popular Formats for Long-Form Reading

Soft Cover (Perfect/PUR) Paperbacks

Clean square-spine paperbacks that stack neatly and travel well. Ideal for debut novels, series, memoirs and non-fiction narratives.

Hardcover Editions

Durable case-bound books that elevate special releases, gift editions and library copies.

Budget Paperbacks

Value-focused paperbacks for events, advance runs and promotional campaigns.

Reader-Friendly Trim Sizes (Custom available)

Fiction favourites include 5 × 8", 5.5 × 8.5", and 6 × 9". Non-fiction narratives often use 7 × 10" or 8 × 10". We also support A5 (148 × 210 mm), A4 (210 × 297 mm), and custom trims.

Paper, Cover & Layout Tips

Interior Stocks

Uncoated for a natural novel feel, or satin for a touch more contrast. We’ll recommend grammages that balance opacity with comfortable bulk.

Cover Protection

Choose gloss or matte lamination for a professional finish that resists scuffs in bags and on shelves.

Typesetting Considerations

Use generous inner margins, comfortable line spacing and chapter opening pages with consistent hierarchy. Add 3 mm bleed only where artwork runs to the edge.

Book Printing FAQs

Can I print just one book?

Yes. You can order from one copy, whether it is a personal keepsake, a gift, your finished manuscript or a copy to review before ordering more. We also print small batches and short runs for authors, families, schools and businesses.

Can I order 50, 100, 250 or 500 books?

Yes. Short runs of 50–500 copies suit book launches, direct sales, courses, school publications and business projects. Enter your specifications in the relevant calculator, then change the quantity to compare the total printing price and price per book.

How can I keep my book printing affordable?

Compare standard book sizes, suitable paper stocks and binding options. Black-and-white pages can help control costs where colour is not needed. Compare quantities using the same specifications, and include freight and GST when deciding what fits your budget.

Can I check a printed copy before ordering more?

Yes. You can purchase a single finished book before placing a larger order. We also offer softcover unbound proofs and hardcover unbound proofs . An unbound proof supplies loose printed sheets for checking; it does not show the finished binding.

Which binding should I choose, and how many pages can I print?

Perfect-bound paperbacks suit novels, memoirs and many business books. Hardcovers are an option for illustrated books and keepsakes. Saddle stitching suits shorter booklets, while wire and coil binding allow manuals and workbooks to open flat. Minimum and maximum page counts depend on the binding and paper stock. Check the relevant calculator and our book binding guide before preparing your files.

What files do I need to supply?

Prepare separate print-ready PDFs for your internal pages and cover. Supply internal pages as individual pages in reading order, rather than spreads. Embed fonts and follow the bleed, margin, image and cover requirements for your chosen binding. Our file format guide and Author Resources Hub explain the preparation steps.

How do I work out margins, cover size and spine width?

Use your final book size, page count and selected paper stock. Our book margins calculator , paperback spine calculator and hardcover spine calculator help you prepare the correct layout. Recalculate if you change the page count, paper, book size or binding before finalising your cover.

How long will printing and delivery take?

Timing depends on your book specifications, quantity, proofing requirements and delivery location. We deliver Australia-wide. If you need books for a launch, course or event, contact us before ordering so we can confirm the production and delivery arrangements for your project.

What information do you need for a custom quotation?

Provide your finished book size, black-and-white and colour page counts, binding, paper and cover preferences, quantity and delivery postcode. Include any special finishing requirements and your required delivery date. Check our quotation requirements for the details needed. An uploaded manuscript alone does not tell us how you want the book printed.
